About Us

1. steady and careful application
2. proper attention or care

Over the last few years I’ve done a lot of pondering about the word diligence, particularly as it has popped up during my scripture studies. I have found that there are many things that we are asked to do with diligence. In the past I’ve thought of diligence to be an equivalent to something that required hard work or intense focus. When I took the time to look it up and really think about the meaning though, I realized that’s not the case. Diligence does not mean that we’re working hard. It means that we’re consistent, careful, attentive, and purposeful in what we are doing.

As I think more about diligence as it applies to my life, I’m inspired to be more consistent in performing my day-to-day tasks, more careful in the way I act and react towards those around me, more attentive to my own needs as well as the needs of others, and more purposeful in making decisions. I want to truly live with diligence.

When I started this blog I was focusing on our family life and the way we do things differently from others. It was fun to share with the world some of the different and sometimes unusual things that we do or dream about, but that wasn’t who I was or what I wanted to become. I don’t like dividing myself from others by declaring how I do things differently. I didn’t want others to feel like I was suggesting that one way was better than others. So, we’re making a shift.

The old name is gone, and “Living with Diligence” has taken its place. Rather than a how-to manual of being the unusual ones in the neighborhood, I hope that I can share how my family truly makes diligence a part of our lives. I want to share with you the reasons behind our efforts and hopefully inspire honest thought and open discussion about the way you live your life. It doesn’t matter if we come to the same conclusions about how to do something. It’s the careful attention and meaningful process behind the decision that is important.

So, here’s to living diligently. May you find a path that is the right one for you.
