There is an episode of How I Met Your Mother where Marshall and Lily are watching Ted in a new relationship and reminiscing about what life was like when their relationship was still new. They watch him go through all of the relationship firsts and think that their relationship is stale because they don’t have any firsts left. Before the episode ends they realize that they do, indeed, still have firsts they can experience.
Since Molly was born I have been reminded of all the firsts that a baby experiences during their first year. I’m also seeing my other children hit important milestones and experience their own firsts. Here are just a few of those.
Malia is 12 now, and in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that comes with its own list of firsts. Her first Young Women activity, her first girls camp, her first talk in sacrament meeting that wasn’t part of a primary program, and this week she will take her first trip to the temple to do baptisms for the dead.
Maxx has his first wiggly tooth. It won’t be the first tooth he’s lost, he had to have 1 pulled when he was 3. He reminds me at least a few times a day that his tooth is still wiggling.
Chloe is potty-training, so her week has been full of firsts. She’s doing really well, all things considered.
