Do you know what happens when you pick one word to focus on for the year? You start to notice more and more opportunities for applying that one word in your life. That’s what.
Since I decided to focus on the word Learn for 2010, I have been keenly aware of many things that point to good places for me to learn new things. It’s almost like the universe has been telling me, “You home school your kids, and now it’s time to home school your self too.”
I am reminded of an article I found recently on the PBS Need to Know site about online learning. You see, over 10 years ago MIT started posting almost all course content on the internet with free access to anyone who wanted it. Since then, the OpenCourseWare Consortioum has gathered a community of hundreds of Universities and organizations who all share “free and open digital publication of high quality university-level education materials … accessible to anyone, anytime via the Internet.”
With all of this information available, why aren’t there more people taking advantage of opportunities to continue to learn as adults? Why do we focus so much on what our kids need to learn and forget about what we can learn?
Do you home school yourself?
